Coming from an atmosphere that never looked at the fashion industry as a sufficient environment to earn a living from, I ended up playing in the wrong sandbox for most of my life. Growing up, adults and school teachers around me believed you could only be four things; a doctor, an engineer, an officer or a failure. My self confidence deteriorated with time.

After finishing my degree in 2018, I ended up being home for a little more than six months. I was looking for something one day and I ended up finding an old set of colour pencils in one of the drawers. I played around with those colour pencils for quite sometime and soon bought myself some paint and paint brushes, which then led me to experiment with painting on fabric. All I did that year was bury myself in art and magazines.

I was scrolling through social media one day and came across an article where JD Institute was mentioned, I checked their college website and signed up the moment I saw it had a one year diploma course in fashion design.

I’m about to finish my course. I don’t feel the need to ornament myself into society’s definition of success. With 2020 hitting us harder than Miley Cyrus hit the music industry in 2013, I believe happiness is the new success and cashing blessings is way more satisfying than cashing paychecks. The college is equivalent to a prism for me and showed me colours of opportunity I didn’t know existed until now. It’s definitely been a rollercoaster for me but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
